Lebanese students learn, enjoy three-week visit to Verona
By Karl Curtis
Verona Press Editor
Excerpts:
"Most
Americans know the country of Lebanon from what they see on the evening
news. Those reports are not always the most pleasant parts of the
evening broadcast."
"For the past three-weeks, four high
school students from Lebanon have been visiting Verona and Verona Area
High School with a goal of broadening the perspective Americans receive
from the news. They arrived May 1 as part of the International
Educational and Resource Network's BRIDGE Program, which links students
from different countries for the purpose of cultural exchange.
The four students stayed with host families..."
"...there were some parts of American
culture the group found surprising. The first was how busy and
independent we are....after three weeks, the students were eager to
return to their homeland, though they were less enthusiastic about a
14-hour flight. They all would like to come back someday.
Maysa [Lebanese student] would like to visit New York. Moustafa
[Lebanese student] met two Lebanese students at the University of
Wisconsin and he would consider coming back to the area for
college. And they will all look back fondly on the time they have
spent in Verona. 'I've made a circle of friends,' Maysa said."
