[Student Reflection]
Just after the earthquake, many heart breaking pictures and videos were
seen on the media but the actual realization of this natural calamity
strikes you once you come face to face with the destruction... I thank
iEARN and the American Embassy for giving us the oppurtunity to get
some time out of our busy lives and to go and see the situation for
ourselves. I think Global Youth Service Day provides a strong platform
on which the youth of today can come together and help the community in
any way they think best... Our main aim for this trip was to go and
help the children in anyway possible. Click HERE to read more.
[Student Reflection] On
the 8th of October 2005 we were hit by a severe earthquake. It happened
so quickly that no body realized what happened. Thousands of houses
were destroyed and millions of people died. I was watching all this
live on the TV. I saw small children crying for their parents who they
thought were alive but they were no more in this world. I was very sad
to see the children crying. I always wished to meet these children and
on 23rd March I got an opportunity to meet them. We went to Ashiana
camp in Attock to meet the quake victims. This camp was full of
mud before the earthquake but Pakistan government turned the place into
a [relief camp]. Click HERE to read more.
[Teacher Reflection]The
disastrous earthquake which shook the land and mountains of Kashmir and
Balakot on 8th October 2005, killed thousands of people and made
millions homeless. There is no one there who did not lose someone in
their family. I watched the telecasts on television and felt very sad
for them. I had spent three years of my early education in that area. I
wished to go but due to my father’s job (as he is a doctor) we were
unable to visit that place. Fortunately, through iEARN, I got a
chance to visit the place and meet those people on the 18th of March
2006 in Kamra (Ashiana relief camp) and on the 24th of March 2006 in
the Jabba camp... On the 8th of March 2006, I - along with my eleven
class fellows and three staff members - reached the Ashiana relief
camp. Click HERE to read more.
