New York, November 2007
This summer the Education and Cultural Affairs Bureau at the State
Department renewed funding for the International and Educational
Resource Network's (iEARN) Global Connections Exchange Program (GCEP)
for an additional twelve-month period. Building on the success of the
last five years, the program aims to enable more students and teachers
in the US and countries with sizable Muslim populations to build
cultural understanding in an educational context.
We are proud to announce that funds will include support for iEARN
programs in Azerbaijan, Bahrain, Egypt, Indonesia, Iraq, Israel (Arab
Communities), Lebanon, Morocco, Oman, Pakistan, Syria, United Arab
Emirates, United States, and Uzbekistan. Through collaborative online
projects, professional development workshops, and international
exchange opportunities the GCEP Program connects thousands of schools
and tens of thousands of educators and students in the United States
and in these twelve countries.
In honor of International Education Week, iEARN will be in Washington,
DC from November 13th – 18th with thirteen of the Country Coordinators
who manage and administer this program. Coordinators from the
following countries will be present: Azerbaijan, Bahrain, Egypt,
Indonesia, Israel, Lebanon, Morocco, Oman, Pakistan, Syria, and
Uzbekistan.
