REFLECTIONS AND QUOTES
iEARN Teacher: "The day I joined iEARN was a turning point in my teaching as well as in my life. iEARN has opened the world for my students and me. It's a place where everyone contributes to making our world a better place for the people. It's a place where teachers and students learn from each other, share and take actions, trying to eliminate global problems of hunger, poverty, pollution, etc. Here we are like one large family." iEARN Teacher from Siberia, Russia
iEARN Teacher: In November, a USA teacher shared the following to her colleagues in a discussion about Millennium Development Project Goals, "...I want to share a great experience I had with my students today. As a part of our involvement in the larger project, my students have been researching issues around Child Labor. Yesterday, at the end of class, I asked them each to write down one line: a statement or feeling or fact they had learned as they researched. I took each line and arranged them into a poem. In today's class, I gave them the poem and assigned a different line to each and introduced them to one form of choral poetry. It was very powerful as they blended their voices. They read artistically and confidently. They didn't realize it was their own words until they heard someone else read them. The Power in word and voice always amazes me, and today it did my 10th grade students as well."
iEARN Teacher: "IEARN has a wonderful goal of making a difference in the world. I think being part of the IEARN family helps us read the news with new eyes. Helps us think about how we teach children about the world and gives us new ways to impact teaching in an incredible way. It takes care and time and it is all worth it! Students grow to appreciate the gifts that others have to offer. There is so much to learn that can help the world and we get to be leaders in that way" iEARN USA Teacher Amy Dwyer, Delaware.

Four Rivers, One World: On
December 3-18, 2007, trainers from iEARN-USA, the Center for
Innovation in Engineering and Science Education (CIESE) at Stevens
Institute of Technology program, and the American Museum of Natural
History will be traveling to India, Bangladesh and Nepal to conduct workshops for
nearly 50 science educators . The trainings will be held under the
Four Rivers, One World project and will help educators develop clear guidelines for
online collaboration and strategies for building effective
communication surrounding water analysis and quality issues. The
participants will learn how to incorporate iEARN and CIESE resources to
complement and expand their existing classroom curricula, while
understanding the different cross-cultural perspectives towards environmental issues. All schools
involved with this project will receive water testing materials and
training to use them to insure valid data that can be collected,
compared and analyzed.
Results of the collaboration will be shared at the annual YouthCaN Conference at the American Museum of Natural History in NYC, an annual event open to all educators and youth around the world.
