Short videos of this and or other gatherings of people sending their iEARN 20th Anniversary greetings are welcomed.   • Join us July 2008 for the 15th Annual iEARN International Conference in Bukhara, Uzbekistan. Projects In Action:  Explore these wonderful iEARN projects and connect with teachers and students around the globe -  
  • One Day in A Life - Louise Prescott, Library Specialist from Mills Pond Elementary School in St. James, NY, has integrated this project as part of her school district's pilot iEARN program for the 2007-2008 school year.  Louise shared, "The third grade social studies curriculum includes cultural studies of several countries... I thought this would be a great opportunity for these students to communicate with other children around the world... As each topic was posted [online], we have been checking for responses and also responding to other groups’ postings...   • Natural Disaster Youth Summit - as part of the project, volunteer students from Argentina and Japan edited the NDYS Newsletter, that highlights news about natural disasters, student project work, and how to help. Download newsletter.
Folktales Project - education magazine, Edutopia, featured an article on iEARN's Folk Tales Project entitled, Telling Tales: Pakistani Students Share their Culture Lore Online".  The project if facilitated by Saleem Ibrahim, of iEARN Pakistan.  The project looks at the global community and cultural diversity through folk tales.  Read more...

GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS
1st Annual National School Conference on International Youth Exchange: Feb 28-29 in Indianapolis, Indiana.  The conference provided a unique opportunity for school leaders, educators and administrators to meet and network with school colleagues and leaders of various youth exchange programs. CSIET and the Indiana Department of Education have come together to sponsor this first of its kind conference that provided a forum on a wide range of topics related to international youth exchange. Video Program with Bahrain: iEARN-USA is seeking a US teacher to bring his/her classroom together with students in Bahrain for  a new collaborative public service video program, MovingVoices. The program will train an educator in the US and Bahrain to replicate and expand iEARN’s successful digital video efforts that have helped youth make a difference in their communities. MovingVoices will result in classroom teachers who are able to lead youth in new media literacy and production, and responsible community action.  Moving Voices will feature: “hands-on” digital video production of public service announcements and professional mentoring and networking from iEARN’s MovingVoices trainers and media partners. Participants will enroll in the MovingVoices online course from February 11- April 6th, 2008. At the conclusion of the course, the teacher will travel with two of his/her students to Bahrain for a 10 day video production workshop and cultural immersion program.  If interested please be in touch with Tina Habib as soon as possible.
 

 
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
Register NOW for iEARN Online Courses: Courses enroll participants from around the world, and run frum February 11 - April 6, 2008.  Each course is designed so that by the end of nine weeks you will have outlined how you will use a standards-based iEARN project in your classroom.  Courses include: Creative Arts, Language Arts/Writing, Social Studies/Contemporary Affairs/Geography, Science/Environment/Math, Teaching of Foreign and Second Langauges, Helping Students Cope With Traumatic Events, Learning Circles, Moving Voices (making digital documentaries), and PEARL (integrating journalism skills into the classroom).  Read more and register now to save your spot, click HERE.   
  
iEARN Workshops: Stop by and meet iEARN teachers and staff at the following conferences.  Learn about iEARN, project-based learning, and hear first-hand how teachers have successfully integrated global projects. 
  • March 7-8: Celebration of Teaching and Learning Conference, New York, NY - Panel Discussion: Ed Gragert, Executive Director of iEARN USA will join a panel discussion with Adobe Systems, Inc and the Asia Society on "Global Awareness in the Classroom" (Saturday, March 8th 2:15 PM - 3:45 PM).

NECC 2008 Conference Call for Proposals:  With a successful 2007 NECC conference behind us, planning has begun for the 2008 conference to be held in June in San Antonio, TX.  Together, iEARN teachers and staff conducted several workshops and we hope to replicate this and more for 2008.  NECC is a wonderful opportunity to share your students' work with fellow educators.  It not only provides teachers with a stage to showcase their use of technology in the classroom, but also provides a venue to highlight their best practices using iEARN online collaborative projects and tools.

iEARN and UN Millenium Campaign Partnersship: Despite the importantance of the MDGs, most people are unaware of their government’s promise to end poverty by 2015. To help spread awareness, the United Nations Millennium Campaign has developed a teacher’s guide on how to easily adapt international poverty issues into existing curriculum.  IEARN is partnering with the UN Millennium Campaign to get this 300 page resource into classrooms throughout the US and other countries. Register NOW for the 2008 YouthCaN Conference:  New York City - On April 7th join youth from around the nation and abroad for the 2008 YouthCaN Conference.  Register early and join special activities held on Saturday, April 5th.  Currently there are 27 youth presented workshops covering various themes including the Millennium Development Goals, water, conservation, solar cooking, and more.  Register now....

 
Register NOW for the 2008 iEARN International Conference in Uzbekistan: This coming July 2008 iEARN Uzbekistan will host and celebrate the 15th Annual iEARN International Conference and Youth Summit.  All are welcome to join educators and youth from around the globe to discuss collaborative projects and technology in the classroom.  It's a wonderful opportunity to participate in various workshops, meet educators from around the world, and build partnerships.  Click HERE to download a PDF with complete details.
 
 
iEARN Presents at ISSA Conference: "All Classes Through Global Glasses" was the theme of the 2008 Conference of ISSA (International Studies Schools Association) in Chicago February 7-9.  IEARN-USA and iEARN-Canada presented workshops on project work in the network.  Ed Gragert, Mojgan Momeni and Adriana Vilela shared information at the iEARN Table.  Ed conducted a workshop session on how to engage in collaborative project work between countries of differing technology resources.   Ed also introduced the Keynote speaker, Andrew Revkin, climate change/science reporter for the New York Times.  Mali Bickney and Jim Carleton, from W.H. Day Elementary School in Toronto presented some of the many projects underway in their school, including Machinto, Teddy Bear, Mali Dolls and My Hero.  They also presented a powerful video on their work with Sierra Leone.  For a video and other resources on their project work visit “Children Connecting Children for Peace”.  Read more...

  • Art Miles Project - Students in Mrs. Juanita Germaine’s Grade 3/4 class at Goodfellow Public School have joined in a collaborative art project with students from Asahi Elementary School in Ishikawa, Japan.  The goal of the collaboration is to create a 12 foot by 5 foot mural to depict awareness of another culture.  Read more...
  • Uganda - a student in Uganda shares his experience attending an ICT camp conducted by SchoolNet Uganda.  He shares, " I got linked to iEARN - International Education and Resource Network and now learned a lot from the youth around the world in the iEARN discussion forums..."  Read more...
