The 1st Annual National School Conference on International Youth Exchange -- Feb 28-29, 2008 in Indianapolis, Indiana.  The conference provided a unique opportunity for school leaders, educators and administrators to meet and network with school colleagues and leaders of various youth exchange programs. CSIET and the Indiana Department of Education have come together to sponsor this first of its kind conference that provided a forum on a wide range of topics related to international youth exchange.

The Opening Keynote Address was delivered by Ambassador Kenton Keith, Vice President of Meridian International.  Ambassador Keith discussed the importance of the youth exchange and international education in the secondary-school context.  The Luncheon Keynote address was delivered by Dr. Suellen Reed, Indiana Superintendent for Public Instruction.  Additional presenters included representatives from the U.S. State Department along with school administrators, educators and youth exchange program leaders. Additionally, U.S. Senator Richard Lugar prepared a video presentation for the conference.  iEARN-USA Director Ed Gragert will participate on a panel titled “Online Classroom/ and Student Collaboration”

At the conference, the 2008 CSIET Global Classroom Awards were given to the three school winners from Virginia, New York and Connecticut. These awards recognize far-sighted educators and generous high schools that actively support international youth exchange.
