Lewin is a global anthology of the writing
of young people around the world. It is
an iEARN project and in
Victoria,
Australia, also a Department of Education and Training Global Classroom
Project.
A. The aim of Lewin is:
1. To provide a place for young people to
publish their writing and, through doing so, to:
- celebrate the
art of writing for an audience
- express their
ideas, thoughts and feelings
- share their
culture, history, experiences and local environment with others around the
world
2. To allow all participants in the project
to appreciate each other's writing and to promote interaction between
participants so that they can encourage each other, give positive criticism of
the writing and so that all can learn from each other.
3. To publish young peoples' writing through
the iEARN newsgroups/forums, the project web site and the Lewin book so that as
many as possible can enjoy it and can be motivated by it.
4. To develop a community of students and teachers
who support and encourage each other in the art of writing for an audience.
B. Advice to Participants
1. All intending participating classes
should supply the following information to the Lewin newsgroup/forum.
Teacher name:
School name:
School postal address:
email:
2. All contributions
should be posted to the Lewin newsgroup/forum.
3. Each contribution should include the
student's name and school.
4. Every participating class is strongly
encouraged to visit the Lewin newsgroup/forum and to read the contributions of
other classes and to post encouraging comments or ask questions of the writers.
Classes are encouraged to discuss with the writers their techniques and their
ideas.
5. It is very important that all writing
posted to Lewin is the original work of the contributing student. The only exceptions to this are:
- Where is it a translation of a famous
work; in this case it must be a translation done by the student and the details
of the original author must be given
- Where a student gives a brief quotation
of another work; in this case details of the author whose work is being quoted
must be given.
Lewin is facilitated and coordinated
entirely by volunteer students and teachers in
Pakistan,
Australia and
Egypt.We welcome your
participation.Lewin exists for its
participants and relies on its participants.Lewin is what we all make it.
The name Lewin means Messenger in the
language of the Gunai/Kurnai people of south-eastern
Australia. The name is used with the permission of the
Gunai/Kurnai elders.
