Creative Writing Online Course Weekly Outline
In
order for you to get a better understanding of the Creative Writing
course content, we outline the weekly activities of the course in the
following. Before you read on to the content, please, take another look
at the iEARN online course prerequisites for participants:
* Basic word processing, Internet and e-mailing skills
* Reliable access to a computer and Internet
* Availability to commit at least 5 hours a week to course activities
* A classroom/students whom you will be working with throughout the course period
* Working knowledge of English
Now, please, read the Weekly Outline of the iEARN Creative Writing online course.
Please
note that all of the discussions of the course throughout nine weeks
will take place in the iEARN online Forum. All assignments are expected
to be posted in the Forum as well. The iEARN online Forum provides a
space for ongoing interactions among course facilitators and
participants during the course.
WEEK 1
Week 1 is one of the first two weeks of
orientation. During these two weeks, you will have opportunity to
familiarize yourself to the features and contents of the course and
practice the technology used in the course delivery.
The Week 1 orientation includes the following
sections:
ï Read a welcome message
ï Become familiar with the iEARN communication techniques
ï Explore the iEARN website
ï Participate in the iEARN Multicultural Communities
ï Review internet resources.
WEEK 2
The Orientation continues in the week 2.
This second week of the orientation will ask you to continue exploring
the iEARN website to and learn even more about iEARN and the immense
possibilities that involvement in this organization offers you and your
students.
You are expected to do the following on the basis of reading materils to be provided for the week:
ï Read about expectations & tips for course success.
ï Learn about Online Project-Based Learning Pedagogy
ï Discover more resources for Project Based Learning
ï Read about effective classroom methodology
WEEK 3
Discussion with others in the course is an important part of the
learning process. By posting comments, reflective statements and
responding to others, we build a virtual community. So you'll need to
be interactive and 'talkative.' In other words, you will need to post in the
iEARN online forums for the week. We expect you to post at least once and also respond at
least once to someone's posting every week.
Core activiteis of the week:
ï Read the mini lecture: Explore iEARN and Our Creative Writing Class
ï Habits of Community and Assignment-1
ï Technology Integration and Assignment 2
ï Read and discuss the article 'Using Multiple Technologies to Teach Writing'.
ï Begin Final Paper-B: A Reflective Essay
WEEK 4
By
this time, we hope, that the activities will have helped you orient yourself
to iEARN as well as experience the power of a global
community.
During
this week, you will focus on the iEARN Creative Writing Projects and
learn more about how you can integrate the projects towards achievement
of language arts curriculum objectives. This week you will also begin
working on your Final Paper A, which is a description of a project you
plan to implement in your classroom.

WEEK 5
In
week 5, you will be getting to the "meat and potatoes" of the writing
portion of the class. Here are the requirements for the session based on readings to be provided for the week:
- Post your opinions on the Six Trait Writing in the discussion forum
- Think about the rubric on "Ideas" and "Content" and disscuss it in the forum
- Explore the "Graphic Organizer" and discuss the strengths and weaknesses of their use
- The Paper-A, Integration Plan, is due by the end of this week
WEEK 6
This week, the class will discuss the Voice trait.
You will review one of the creative writing projects and try to talk
with students and adult facilitators of the project. You will get an
opportunity to explore more about Graphic Organizers and also discuss
the collaborative aspects of writing.
You
will need to post your assignments, responses and discussions in the
iEARN Interactve Forum for the Creative Writing Course. This week, you
are expected to submit the ìIntegration Plans-Paper Aî, if you have
not done so.

WEEK 8
This week you will be asked to begin thinking in retrospective and prospectively both.
Soon, you will be expected to begin posting your students work in the
relevant iEARN project forums.

responses in the interactive forum.
